Jake was born and raised in Southern California. He grew up camping, hiking, surfing and mountain biking. He now gets to share his love of nature with his two kids, Jack (3) and Ava (2). Jake is a welder by trade, but has recently decided to pursue his passion of art. He has always been drawn to art, but it wasn’t until he began welding, at 18, that he discovered metal art. He spent a few years creating art out of metal before taking the plunge into the world of glass art. He bought the equipment, the glass and through the use of YouTube videos, books and a lot of trial and error, he taught himself the basics of glass blowing. As he progressed, he went on to learn under more experienced glass artists and really developed his skill. He loves making sculptures inspired by nature, especially seashells, but also enjoys making jewelry, marbles and functional items like pipes and belt buckles. You can check out some of his artwork on Instagram @metalglassart.
Jake loves learning new techniques, experimenting with different media and loves teaching glassblowing! He is excited to share his art with all of the great folks at Elements this year!
Jake will be offering multiple classes. The first is a free, demo class open to anyone who would like to learn about flameworking glass. After attending the first class, those who would like to try their hand at creating something from raw glass and fire can attend one of the hands on classes. In this class, Jake will assist you in creating your own marble, pendant, paperweight or small shell that you can take home.
The hands on class will take about an hour and will cost $25.
